BusinessEurope Drops Opposition to Carbon Border Tax

The European Union must consider a carbon border tax on imported goods if leading economic competitors such as the U.S., China, and India don’t take measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, according to the bloc’s largest business lobby group.

In a strategy outlining how the EU can meet its Paris agreement climate targets and remain competitive, BusinessEurope dropped its long-standing opposition to a border “adjustment” tax on the condition that it is in line with World Trade Organization rules.
