Energy, Water Bill Offered Up First in Senate’s Spending Queue

If Senate leadership wants volunteers to move must-pass spending bills, Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) says he’ll go first with his fiscal 2020 energy and water spending measure.

“We volunteered to be at the head of the line,” Alexander, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, told reporters July 30.

That spending bill includes Energy Department fossil and renewable energy research, and water projects. Alexander said he made the suggestion to Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), chairman of the full Senate Appropriations Committee, in a meeting hours earlier.
