Fate of Insecticides Harmful to Bees in EU Set for April 27 Vote

The fate in the European Union of three neonicotinoid pesticides produced by Bayer CropScience AG and Syngenta AG could soon be decided by an EU regulatory committee.

The EU Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed—made up of representatives of the bloc’s 28 member countries—will vote April 27 on whether to prohibit the outdoor use of the substances, Klaus Berend, head of pesticides in the European Commission’s Health and Food Safety Directorate, told the European Parliament’s environment and food safety committee April 12.

The European Commission is the EU’s executive arm.
