Federal Action Against PFAS Could Complement States’ Moves (2)

State efforts to force companies like 3M and DuPont to foot the bill for cleaning up “forever” chemicals they released into the environment must be backed by federal actions, the chairman of a House subcommittee said July 24.

“State action, while immensely valuable, is not enough, and we need to take action at the federal level immediately,” said Harley Rouda (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on Environment.

3M, DuPont, and other companies that made or used the chemicals, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, concealed information about the ways those chemicals could harm people...
