Germany Poised to Annul Carbon Permits Tied to Coal Exit

Germany, Europe’s biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, plans to annul pollution permits linked to its phase-out of coal power after a settling a coalition row over the move’s impact on government revenue.

A volume of pollution permits currently auctioned by Germany to cover the needs of coal plants will be progressively kept from the market and canceled, Deputy Environment Minister Jochen Flasbarth said on Tuesday in Madrid at the United Nations’ Climate Change Conference.
