Habitat Protections at Issue as Species Rules Reconsidered

Two policies on protecting endangered species’ habitat have been added to the list of Obama administration rules that the Trump administration will reconsider.

Twenty states, led by Alabama, sued in 2016 to overturn the rules and reached a settlement in which the federal government agreed to review the rules, albeit without any promise of changes.

At stake are habitat protections that can impose substantial restrictions on property owners, homebuilders, developers, utilities, oil and gas companies, and local governments.
