Interior Department Sued Over Delayed Joshua Tree Designation

The Interior Department should be forced to decide whether to list the Joshua tree as a threatened species, a new lawsuit by an environmental group says.

The government recently unveiled changes to the Endangered Species Act. Under the new regime, “threatened” Joshua trees wouldn’t enjoy the same protections as high-priority endangered species, but being listed would still trigger other safeguards under the law.
