Ice only covers northern hemisphere lakes intermittently during the winter as global temperatures rise, and that could impair biodiversity and drinking water, scientists warned.

The report published in the journal Nature Climate Change and released Jan. 28, purports to focus for the first time on forecasting how climatic change will change ice cover on the world’s freshwater lakes.
