Merkel May Launch 10 Billion Euros of Green-Bond Sales in 2020

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government is moving forward on a pledge to lead a public-sector switch to sustainable finance by launching offerings of green bonds in 2020.

The Finance Ministry in Berlin will authorize selling the sovereign green debt in the amount of “high one-digit to low two-digit” billion euros, according to a reply to a query from Left Party lawmaker Fabio de Masi that was seen by Bloomberg. The bonds will be convertible at any date to ordinary federal bonds, retaining the same coupon, the ministry said.
