Mining Companies Lose Millions Awaiting Permits; Changes Sought

Mining companies are spending millions and facing long delays to get environmental permits needed to extract critical minerals at a time when trade wars make domestic supplies even more important, witnesses told a Senate panel July 17.

The U.S. needs to streamline its environmental permitting rules to promote domestic minerals production and wean itself from foreign suppliers, Republican senators said at the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing.
