New York Set to Vote on Bills Banning Toxic Toys, Chlorpyrifos

New York State lawmakers are set to vote on environmental bills that would regulate toxic chemicals in children’s products, ban the pesticide chlorpyrifos, and align water efficiency standards with federal guidelines.

The legislation is set to go before both houses today:

  • The Child Safe Products Act (A.6296/S.501) would require the state Department of Environmental Conservation to post and periodically review a list of dangerous chemicals or chemicals of concern. Manufacturers would have to disclose whether those chemicals are in their products. The sale of products containing dangerous chemicals such as organohalogen flame retardants, tris and asbestos
