Peru Says It Is Not Violating Environmental Annex in Trade Deal

Peru said it is not violating landmark environmental provisions included in its nearly decade-old free trade agreement with the U.S.

Peruvian authorities Dec. 20 rejected assertions from Democrats on the House Ways & Means Committee that changes to its forestry and wildlife regulatory agency are a “flagrant attack on the heart of the Forestry Annex.” The lawmakers referenced the annex as a key provision of the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement in their letter to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer Dec. 19.
