Pesticides for Hemp Are Coming, EPA Official Says (1)

No pesticides are currently registered for use on hemp, a strain of cannabis, but that will soon change, a senior EPA official said July 25.

“I can report that the agency has recently begun to receive a number of registration requests seeking to add hemp to pesticide labels,” said Alexandra Dapolito Dunn, the assistant administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, at a hearing of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee.

Ten product registration requests are under review at the EPA, Dunn said. Hemp is used in making food, fiber, and textiles....
