Proof of Common Pesticide’s Safety Is Misleading, Scientists Say (1)

A new paper is challenging the industry-backed studies that help keep a neurotoxic pesticide on the market.

The authors are using the findings to raise questions on bias in company-funded research that underlie government risk assessments and regulations for pesticides and other chemicals, which ultimately affect public health.

The paper, published online Nov. 15 in the journal Environmental Health, concerns chlorpyrifos, a 1960’s-era insecticide developed by Dow Chemical Co. and manufactured by ADAMA, BASF SE, Cheminova, and other companies.
