Proposed Energy Cuts Come Under Bipartisan Fire From House Panel

House appropriators from both parties vowed Tuesday to reject the Trump administration’s proposed cuts to a variety of Energy Department programs, with one top Republican saying the depth of many of the cuts left him “kind of amazed.”

Energy Department officials defended the administration’s proposals to slash funding for a host of renewable, fossil, and nuclear energy efforts under the proposed fiscal 2021 budget at a hearing of the House Appropriations Committee’s energy and water subcommittee. Under the proposal, total agency funding would fall 8% to $35.4 billion in fiscal 2021, which begins Oct. 1.
