Roundup Products Could See Challenging Future From French Ruling

A French nongovernmental organization said it plans to use a recent court decision voiding authorization of glyphosate-based weedkiller Roundup Pro 360 as a template to attack future approvals for other products containing the pesticide.

The Lyon administrative court on Jan. 15 voided Monsanto Co.’s authorization to sell Roundup Pro 360 on grounds that the authorizing agency incorrectly applied the French Constitution’s precautionary principle.

That principle says that absence of scientific certainty shouldn’t be allowed to postpone measures that could protect the environment, food safety, or human health.
