Trump Budget Proposes to Again Cut Energy Research, Loan Programs (1)

The White House is again proposing to eliminate the Energy Department’s advanced energy research agency and loan programs, despite broad bipartisan pushback against the proposed cuts last year.

The Trump administration is requesting $30.6 billion in total for the Energy Department for fiscal year 2019, a 1.32 percent increase from the fiscal 2017 enacted level of $30.2 billion, with large proposed cuts to energy research programs and loans geared to reduce carbon emissions. However, the proposal is still not likely to go far with appropriators on Capitol Hill.
