Wheeler Credits EPA’s Superfund Success to Pruitt’s Efforts

EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler is attributing the accomplishments of the agency’s flagship environmental cleanup program to efforts started by his predecessor, Scott Pruitt.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s Superfund task force, created by Pruitt in 2017, embarked on a two-year revamp of the program. The cleanup process can take decades for a single site, and Pruitt and Wheeler have focused on speeding that up and pushing sites toward redevelopment. The agency’s metrics for success include deleting sites from the National Priorities List and assessing contamination.
