Newly minted U.S. Supreme Court Justice Neil M. Gorsuch brings something unique to the current high court bench—a “Western perspective.”

Gorsuch was born and spent much of his childhood in Colorado. He later returned to the Centennial State to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

That Western background might not only give him insight into particular areas of the law, but might promote more collegiality on the bench among the justices, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) suggested during Gorsuch’s March confirmation hearing.
