Factories Get Guidance for Complying With Silica Exposure Limit

New federal guidance aims to help factories comply with safety and health regulations protecting workers from inhaling toxic silica dust.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidance, however, leaves some concerns unresolved, a management attorney says.

“It still leaves the big questions unanswered,” John Martin, a shareholder at Ogletree Deakins PC in Washington who has tracked OSHA’s silica rule, told Bloomberg Law.

OSHA issued the guidance Jan. 22 in the form of 64 questions and answers.

It arrived six months after OSHA in July began enforcing the rule for general industry. The silica rule was issued in March 2016.
