New SeaWorld Citations Allege Park
Discouraged Employee Safety Complaints

SeaWorld LLC has been cited for failing to maintain an effective employee injury and illness prevention program at a San Diego park by not providing proper training for interactions with killer whales and by discouraging workers from disclosing hazards “for fear of reprisal,” the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health announced April 29.

Cal/OSHA cited SeaWorld for one general and three serious violations, with total proposed penalties of $25,770, after it was determined that the theme park failed to evaluate hazards for employees who rode orcas and swam with them in the medical pool. SeaWorld further made animal trainers...
