The Tennessee Division of Occupational Safety and Health is taking responsibility for marine construction safety starting Sept. 29, the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced in a Federal Register notice.
Tennessee’s workplace safety law, passed in 1972, declared that workers covered by the federal Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act weren’t protected by the state law. In 2015, the state legislature revised the provision, enabling the state to begin enforcing the safety law.
